We are honoring our friend, Christopher Andrew Leinonen.

When he was in high school, Drew launched the first gay-straight alliance in 2002 at Seminole High School in Seminole, FL. This move eventually earned him the Anne Frank Humanitarian Award from the St. Pete Holocaust Museum.

Naturally, we wanted to honor him and his legacy the best way we could: By empowering LGBTQ+ youth and setting them up to be the successful leaders we desperately need in this country.

To date, we have given away over $150,000 in college scholarships, $15,000 in mini-grants for gay-straight alliances and out-of-work drag entertainers, and published one of the most comprehensive GSA guides in the country, which will be translated to Spanish over the coming months.

Thank you for joining us on this journey to honor our friend and the rest of the 48 victims who lost their lives to senseless violence at the Pulse nightclub shooting.

Our mission is simple: The Dru Project is an LGBTQ+ advocacy organization on a mission to spread love across the nation and promote gay straight alliances. We are doing this by creating a curriculum for high school GSAs to use, should they wish to adopt our program. We are also offering scholarships to students who truly exemplify Drew's spirit for inclusion and unity. 

On June 12, 2016, our lives changed.

On this fateful night, a man with an automatic assault rifle entered Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, Florida. Christopher Andrew Leinonen and his partner Juan Ramon Guerrero were among the 49 killed.

At the time, this attack was the biggest mass shooting by a single shooter in modern history of the United States to date, as well as the biggest attack on the LGBTQ+ community in history.
